Purpose

The main objective of the project is to develop a tool that provides comprehensive radio consumption data for evaluation and comparison. This tool is designed for organizations like IMRO and SESAC to analyze radio airplay data, particularly focusing on specific stations and selected works by composers.

Problem Statement

The challenge is to accurately gather, present, and allow the analysis of radio consumption data over a specified period. The current systems lack the capability to provide detailed, comparable data from multiple stations and for specific composers, which limits the ability of organizations to evaluate and optimize their data strategies.

Challanges

Developing the Music on Radio Consumption Data Analysis Tool was challenging due to inconsistent data accuracy. Our key goal was to deliver valuable, reliable insights for artists while ensuring the tool's usability. We aimed to create an intuitive interface that allows artists to focus on their music, not on managing complex data analysis.

Solution

The solution involves creating a web-based tool that:

  1. Collects and presents radio consumption data from specified stations over a defined period.
  2. Allows the analysis of data for specific works by selected composers.
  3. Ensures the data is downloadable in CSV format for further analysis.

Impact

The Radio Consumption Data Analysis Tool successfully addresses the need for detailed and analyzable radio consumption data. By providing a user-friendly interface, clear data segregation, and robust filtering options, the tool empowers organizations like IMRO and SESAC to make informed decisions and optimize their data strategies. The comprehensive documentation of design decisions and an iterative feedback process ensured that the tool effectively met user needs, ultimately enhancing the strategic capabilities of these organizations.

Design Process

Requirements Gathering:

  1. Collected requirements from IMRO and SESAC.

    • Identified the need for detailed data from RTE1, RTE2, and international stations.
  2. Design Decisions:

    • Implemented separate views for RTE1/RTE2 and composers' works.
    • Added filtering and selection features for specific composers.
    • Enabled CSV data downloads with error explanations.
  3. UX Enhancements:

    • Streamlined navigation with relevant tabs.
    • Added a date picker for analysis period selection.
    • Provided clear labeling and error indications.
  4. Technical Implementation:

    • Used MUI components for date picking and selection.
    • Ensured accurate data capture and display.
    • Developed a filtering mechanism for SESAC's Top10K works.
  5. Testing and Feedback:

    • Conducted user testing and iterated based on feedback.
