The installation, called “SMILE!” plays with the border between absurdity and pleasure. People have fun because they have to. The pleasure, the laughter is the “entry ticket”. A constant (few seconds) fake smile activates a camera. The picture of the smiling person is being used as a mask within the projection, restricts the view of the happening, and overlays it. The scenes behind it are blurry, cloudy, and fragmentary – incomprehensible memories. Only fragments of memory as well as the smile are remaining.
The installation was realized in cooperation with Matthias Kappeler.
